Online theft of cryptocurrencies was investigated



The Cybercrime Prosecution Directorate filed a regular criminal case against two foreigners for cyber fraud, digital wallet violation, and theft of cryptocurrencies and money, totaling 260,000 euros.


It was preceded by a complaint from a citizen, according to which, unknown perpetrators, after violating his personal e-mail box, stole his credentials and entered his account - digital wallet, removing digital coins (cryptocurrencies) and a sum of 26 euros. which they then transferred to other digital wallets.


The details of the case were brought to the attention of the competent Prosecutor's Office, which ordered a preliminary investigation, during which, after thorough police and digital-internet investigation, in cooperation with the European Cybercrime Center of Europol (EC3) and other police authorities, the details of the two foreigners, residents abroad, were identified.


It is noted that the location of the final destination of the cryptocurrencies and the identification of the perpetrators were carried out using specialized software, which tracked the flow of digital currencies and carried out an in-depth analysis of the transactions they made.


In fact, it was found that, in the digital wallets held by the perpetrators, cryptocurrencies worth about 2,000,000 euros have been disbursed.


The case file has been submitted to the competent Prosecutor's Office, while the investigations for the full clarification of the case continue, in cooperation with Europol and other police Authorities.
