According to Carl Pei, the smartphone market has been shrinking lately due to the lack of reasons for consumers to get new products. This comment is seen as more aimed at saying there has been no innovation in the smartphone arena lately.
At the same time, Carl Pei also said that smartphones will continue to dominate consumers' digital lives for another five to 10 years.
Despite the talk and hype regarding other alternative products, smartphones are expected to remain the main medium.
Recently, a number of companies have started focusing on augmented reality devices such as smart glasses and even AR headsets. Apple itself is said to be focusing on this arena, and is expected to showcase their offerings as early as 2023.
