Mi Air Charge | Xiaomi presents remote wireless charging technology

Xiaomi has just announced its own remote wireless charging system: Mi Air Charge.  according to the company - it is not necessary neither cables nor a charging base but the charging process happens remotely at a distance of several meters and with a power of 5W.

In addition, Xiaomi claims that its technology is capable of charging several devices at the same time with a power of 5W and that even physical obstacles do not reduce the efficiency of charging.

It is true that it is not a very high speed but it is a small big step forward. The company has not confirmed that it will implement this technology on a mobile phone soon but it has given details of its operation.

Xiaomi explains that the core of this technology is based on spatial positioning and energy transmission.

The charging station developed by the brand has five phase interference antennas that "can accurately detect the location of the smartphone." Once its location has been detected, a series of 144 antennas transmit millimeter waves to the phone using beam formation.

This is useless if the smartphone does not have a receiving system, of course. This is why Xiaomi has developed a "miniaturized antenna array" with a beacon antenna and a series of 14 built-in receiving antennas.

The first transmits the position information "with low power consumption". The latter converts the millimeter-wave signal into electrical energy through a rectifier circuit.

Basically, Xiaomi converts millimeter waves into electrical energy.

According to Xiaomi, its technology is currently capable of remotely charging several devices at the same time with a power of five watts in a radius of five meters.

It is not the fastest loading speed in the world, but it is a very interesting figure for such an incipient technology.

Although Mi Air Charge makes a lot of sense on mobile phones, since it could be able to charge the phone if we leave it on the table, for example, the Chinese company explains that it can work with smartwatches, bracelets, and other wearables.

In fact, Xiaomi envisions a future where all speakers, desk lamps, and other small IoT devices work without cables.

However, it should be remembered that at the moment this technology is a promise and not a commercial product, so it is better to wait for the company to launch it if it ever does.

Xiaomi is not the only manufacturer that has shown its remote wireless charging technology. Motorola has also shared a video on Weibo in which it shows its technology.

From what we have been able to see, the system is less complex than that of Xiaomi.

This consists of a kind of charging device that is placed on the table. For it to work, the mobile has to be in a straight line with respect to the charger that is directly in front of it and at a distance of no more than one meter.

It seems that it can be used with several devices at the same time, but Motorola has not revealed the loading speed.

In addition, unlike what Xiaomi promises, for Motorola technology, it seems that obstacles are a problem since when you put your hand between the charging base and the mobile the charging process stops.
